2009 Bingara Annual Races

The Annual Bingara Races were held in February 2009. An afternoon of excellent Racing, fashions and fun commenced with the National Anthen sung by Fiona Ozols . The highlight of the racing was an excellent front running display by Glenbarra Boy to win the Booroomooka Angus Stud HR and HG Munro Memorial Bingara Cup. Tingha Horse Art Major trained by astute horse lady Art Major ran second, and the highly fancied Bambu from Garah hit the line strongly for third. Glenbarra Boy was tactically well ridden by lady apprentice Lee Menser and trained by veteran Trainer Merv Corliss from Tamworth. Glenbarra Boy is owned by a group of owners including cattle farmer Neil Latimer who used to race one of the best horses to race in the north west Ackwasoff. Other race day winners included Ben’s Will from Barraba, Kopataroa from Tamworth, Mr Rochester from Toowoomba and Zandaby from Bendemeer. Zandaby was bred by Doug Withers, the senior vice president and Clerk of the Course. Budding racecaller Anthony Manton travelled from Sydney to call his first ever race meeting and did a very good job. Due to the excellent crowd in the magnificent grandstand he had to move his calling position to the photo finish stand. He stated : "The Bingara Race day was a real buzz – and I enjoyed the hospitality and opportunity provided by The Bingara Jockey Club". President Sinclair Munro stated "It was one of the best meetings Bingara has had with great local support and racegoers on track from as far as England, France, Israel, New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane". He said "Race Meetings at Bingara are built on voluntary hard working local people and good local business sponsorship". Organisations such as The Lions Club, SES and Westpac Helicopter Support Group provide vital services to the race day.
